- Unplug in the Park – March 1st
Happy National Day of Unplugging! Disconnect from technology for an evening and join us for a family-friendly experience at the park. Expect crafts, archery, nature exploration, games, scavenger hunts, hikes, and an animal encounter! The free event is being held at the Exploration Gateway from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

- Stark Parks Seasonal Job and Internship Fair – March 7th from 4:30 – 6:30 PM located at the Exploration Gateway at 5712 12th Street NW, Canton.
- Friends of Stark Parks is hosting the annual Canalway Classic Spring Peeper on Saturday, March 30th. The Spring Peeper is a 2-mile and 5-mile race on the Towpath and Olde Muskingum Trails in Canal Fulton. https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/CanalFulton/CanalwayClassicSpringPeeper
Science and Nature
- Bluebird Monitoring and Training – March 5th
Join us at the Exploration Gateway at 6:00 PM as we learn more about bluebirds, their preferred habitat, as well as how to monitor bluebird boxes at various Stark Parks locations. The program is free but registration is required.
- Wildlife Wednesday: Reptiles – March 13th
Get a unique peek at our Animal Ambassadors followed by a guided hike around Sippo Lake during our Wildlife Wednesdays on March 13th from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. This month, we’ll learn about Ohio’s scaly friends and meet some of our reptile ambassadors, then join us for a hike looking for reptiles! The program is free but registration is required.
- Wild Workshop: Bluebird Box – March 18th
Join us for a night of learning, craftsmanship and fun at our Wild Workshops at the Exploration Gateway on March 18th from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Meet one of our bird ambassadors and build your own bluebird box to take home and monitor! One bluebird box per registrant. Registration is required due to limited materials. Cost is $25 for in-county and $30 out of county.
Activities
- Youth Archery – March 9th
This introductory-level archery program is for youth ages 10-17 and will be held at the Exploration Gateway from 10:00 – 11:30 AM. This class emphasizes safety, proper shooting form, and recreational target shooting. All archery equipment will be provided for this class and is taught by USA Archery-certified staff. Please wear closed-toe shoes, and registration is required. Cost is $5 for in-county and $10 out of county.
- STEAM Teens: Building Bridges – March 12th
Join us monthly for our STEAM Teens program, connecting teens to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. This month we'll meet in the downstairs Science Lab at the Exploration Gateway from 6:00 – 7:30 PM where we'll be building bridges using different materials, then testing how much weight they can hold. Pizza will be provided! Pre-registration is required due to limited materials. Cost is $5 for in-county and $7 out of county.
- Adventure Kids: Fairy Frenzy March 20th and March 23rd
Let's get whimsical! Kids will make a fairy garden, learn animal fairy tales, and meet a creature of the mystical forest at the Exploration Gateway! The program is free but registration is required.
March 20th: 3 – 5-year-olds: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 6 – 9-year-olds 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
March 23rd: 3 – 5-year-olds: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 6 – 9-year-olds 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
- Identitrees: Trees on Skis – March 21st
Hop on cross-country skis and join us as we swish through Quail Hollow Park. Along the way we will stop and learn about the common trees of Ohio. All ski equipment and boots will be provided. Program will begin with a quick introduction to cross-country skiing skills. No snow? No problem! We’ll hike around Quail Hollow identifying trees. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Program is free but cost to rent skis is $5.00 payable by cash at the door. Registration required.
- Marvel at the Moon Hike – March 26th
Let's marvel at the full moon of March, the Worm Moon! We'll learn about moon phases and how this satellite affects our day-to-day life while on an evening walk at Petros Lake Park. Program starts at 8:00 PM and is free but registration is required.
