City of Green Introduces a New Community Event, A Change of Art Event for May 18, 2024

GREEN, OH – The Green Community Leadership Initiative, the City of Green, and the Drug Task Force introduce a new community event called A Change of Art, a day of wellness, art, and mental health, at Central Park, 1755 Town Park Boulevard, on Saturday, May 18 from 10 am to 2 pm. Enjoy a morning with relaxing activities, food trucks, music, silent disco, community art and more. Parking and admission are free.

A Change of Art, sponsored by Portage Path Behavioral Health, was created by the Green Community Leadership Initiative class in partnership with the Green Drug Task Force as a way for the community to focus on mental health awareness. A Change of Art is fun and accessible for all ages.

Activities Participants will be invited to partake in a number of wellness and stress relieving activities including art, movement and mindfulness.  The following stations and activities are designed for all ages:

Community Art Project. The City has teamed with local artist Bob Yost to create a new community art project to be displayed within the Central Park Community Hall once completed. Yost will lead participants of all ages from toddlers on up in creating a piece of pottery, which will be incorporated into the final mosaic.  Bob Yost is a local ceramic artist and owner of Yost Tile, a handmade custom ceramic tile production facility. He has led community art-based projects in northeast Ohio for over 20 years. Yost will create a mosaic of the community pieces to be installed at the Central Part Community Hall in the fall.

Art Therapy. Led by the Green Branch Library, participants can select from a variety of art therapy make-and-take projects to complete.

Yoga and Breathing Sessions. Twice an hour, yoga instructors from the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Lifestyles, will lead a yoga, pilates and movement sessions in the amphitheater.

Silent Disco. Don a set of headphones and tune into a channel of your choice and dance to your own disco as part of a crowd. A silent disco or silent rave is an event where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast to headphones. Try a new take on partying that is accessible to all ages and abilities, and sensory friendly.

Therapy dogs. Sit with, read to or pet and cuddle with one of the visiting therapy dogs hosted by WAGtimePet Therapy.

Mental Health Screening. Our sponsor Portage Path Behavioral Health is offering free, discrete mental health screenings.
