MassMu Presents Drawing from Life Workshop Series

In conjunction with its Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870–1900 exhibition, the Massillon Museum will offer a Drawing from Life workshop series on Saturday, June 29, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 30, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Adults and youths ages 15 and older are invited to join instructor Nick Lee, working in graphite, colored pencil, and art crayon to create works inspired by garments featured inGilding Northeast Ohio. Students will draw mannequins wearing antique clothing from life on drawing paper.

Register at www.MassillonMuseum.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061. Tuition is $55 per person or $50 per MassMu member. Registrants will be sent a supply list of items to bring or purchase prior to the first class. The cost of supplies for each student will total approximately $50. Students may provide supplies they already own. Dry media must be approved by the Museum for use in the gallery. The Museum will provide drawing paper and drawing clipboards to all students.

Nick Lee, a painter and 2021 Kent State University graduate, lives and works in Akron, Ohio. His artwork is inspired by the diversity of human experience. As a Japanese American, Lee’s visual art strives to better represent minorities like himself in American portraiture and western art. Another motivation for Lee is self-discovery. He uses symbolic Japanese objects in his paintings to connect with a culture that was not taught to him growing up. Lee is the 2023 recipient of the Distinguished Citizen for Art Education for the Northeast Ohio region by the Ohio Art Education Association and the recipient of the 2024 Arts Alive Emerging Artist award by Summit Artspace.

Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870–1900 is organized by the Massillon Museum (Massillon, Ohio).  The exhibition, guest-curated by Brian Centrone, is funded by a Major Arts Enhancements & Exhibit Grant through ArtsinStark and Visit Canton.
