MAPLEWOOD FARM TURNS 200 YEARS OLD
“HOMEGIRL” GINA BISHOP BRINGS BACK FAMOUS THREE-DAY BARN SALE TO CELEBRATE
HUDSON, OHIO – (June 7, 2024) – Maplewood Farm, located in the charming historic town of Hudson, Ohio is celebrating its 200th Anniversary. Originally called the “Western Reserve,” the land was granted to people in New England states to “go west.” Maplewood Farm was settled by people from Connecticut and is the fifth oldest house in Hudson. The woman who lived in the farmhouse, Eliza Thompson Metcalf, came to the Hudson area with David Hudson, the town’s namesake, when she was a youngster. She was one of the first children in the “Western Reserve.” The farm originally featured 300 acres and many barns. Today only one of the original barns still sits on the current property and will be the site of one of Bishop’s famous Barn Sales to take place June 20-22, 2024 as part of the Anniversary Celebration.
The farm was home to Horace M. Clark, who was a co-inventor of the maple syrup evaporator and won a gold medal at the Chicago World Fair in 1904. Being one who finds historical significance of a home important, Gina and her husband Brian, have meticulously maintained many of the original elements of the home.
The beautiful farmhouse boasts all of its original floors and most of the original windows. Maplewood Farm was originally built in the likeliness of a New England home. The house remained in the original family for 100 years.
Gina Bishop, her husband Brian and their two children have lived at Maplewood Farm for 18 years. When one enters the property it is easy to feel the blend of an antique home with modern day living. The extensive gravel driveaway leading up to the farmhouse on the hill and original barn is surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful outdoor elements.
To celebrate the home’s rich history Gina Bishop’s home décor company “Homegirl,” will host one of her popular Barn Sales on Thursday, June 20th, 2024 from 5-8pm and Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22nd, 2024 from 10am – 3pm. Bishop has gathered several vendors and artisans to help curate a wonderful experience combining the ideas of the ultimate treasure hunt and décor inspiration.
Maplewood Farm is a very special place. We are incredibly proud of its history and have been honored to have been its caretakers for so many years. It’s important to myself and my family to share this history and our home with everyone. The Barn Sale will bring back an event we hosted pre-COVID that was attended by people from around the country. We have packed the barn with vintage and new furnishings and home decor, handcrafted artisan items, art, antiques, textiles, gifts and so much more. As stewards, we are just passing through this very special and unique home and hope everyone will mark their calendars to join us this month.” – Gina Bishop, Founder of Homegirl
