Stark Parks and the City of Canton Schedule Ribbon Cutting
Stark Parks, in partnership with Canton Parks and Recreation and the City of Canton, is excited to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 28th from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM to celebrate the completion of a newly paved section of the Middle Branch Trail. This project was made possible through a Carbon Reduction Program grant facilitated by the Stark County Regional Planning Commission, Stark Area Transportation Study, and ODOT as well as a Creating Healthy Communities grant from the Stark County Health Department, which funded the paving of just over a 3-mile stretch from 55th Street to Colonial Blvd. in Canton.
“Paving sections of our most heavily used trails is key to upgrading our trail network to be more accessible for all users. It will provide a more reliable and consistent surface. Paving will minimize the need for ongoing repairs after heavy rains, thus reducing maintenance costs and making Stark Parks a more sustainable entity,” said Stark Parks Executive Director, Dan Moeglin.
The Middle Branch Trail spans 7.7 miles, connecting neighborhoods to nature from Canton to Plain Township, with scenic routes along the Middle Branch of the Nimishillen Creek. Stark Parks is proud to maintain this important trail, which links to several Canton City Parks, including Robert E. Schreiber Park, Reifsnyder Park, Oak Park, and Martindale Park. The trail also passes notable landmarks such as Gervasi Vineyard, Rice’s Nursery, Veterans Community Park in Plain Township, and GlenOak High School.
This project marks a significant step towards Stark Parks goal of improving park and trail accessibility and user experience, furthering the commitment to community wellness and accessibility for all users.
