Moths of the Night: Celebrate Ohio’s Nocturnal Pollinators at The Wilderness Center

What: TWC is celebrating Ohio’s nocturnal moths!  An incredible line-up of special guest speakers will share their knowledge and love of these nocturnal pollinators with us.  TWC’s Enchanted Forest Luna Moth will be onsite, distributing snacks and facilitating crafts.

Event Highlights

  • Meet our Enchanted Forest Luna Moth: This playful mascot will welcome guests with crafts and snacks throughout the event.
  • Inspiring talks by guest speakers:
    • Danae Wolfe (10:00–11:00 AM): “Night Vision: Finding Awe, Beauty, and Purpose in the Dark.” A conservation photographer and author, Wolfe invites attendees to reimagine the natural world through intimate macro portraits of moths and nighttime insects—encouraging wonder in unexpected places.
    • Lucy Guarnieri (11:00 AM–12:00 PM): “Moth Conservation in Urban Landscapes: Challenges and Opportunities.” Guarnieri explores moth biology, the pressures of urbanization, and research-backed strategies for incorporating moth-friendly practices into our green spaces.
    • Chelsea Gottfried (1:00–2:00 PM): “Mysterious Moths.” Join in a visual journey exploring the beauty and ecological importance of moths, while learning how “moth gardening” with native plants can enrich our yards and ecosystems.

  • Midday Nature Experience (12:00–1:00 PM):
    • Bring your own picnic to enjoy at the newly renovated Lake View Shelter.
    • Take a guided stroll with a Wilderness Center naturalist.
    • Explore the Dark-Sky Lab, discovering simple ways to reduce light pollution and support nocturnal wildlife.
