Open House to Debut MassMu’s New Classrooms—The MAC

The Massillon Museum is pleased to announce the opening of The MAC—the MassMu Arts Center, a state-of-the-art classroom space that will debut on October 1, 2025, with a free public open house from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
This inspiring transformation has been made possible through the generosity of longtime Museum supporter and Massillon native, Nan Ream, whose connection to the Museum began when she attended art classes in the original Museum building and discovered her lifelong love of creativity. “The Museum was home,” Nan shared, recalling how those early experiences shaped her.
Ream’s gift ensures that today’s children and adults will have a welcoming place to learn, create, and connect, just as she did. Her support of this project has helped the Museum turn
what was a useable (but in no way outfitted) space, into a vibrant, comfortable environment that will elevate students’ experiences.
The lower level classroom spaces feature contemporary lighting fixtures, colorful and comfortable furniture, new flooring, custom cabinetry by Urban Construction, and current technology and equipment that includes a 3D printer. Architect John Picard designed the project to reflect Nan’s vision of a community where the arts thrive and are accessible to all.
“This will stand as a testament to the power of giving back,” said MassMu Operations Officer Scot Phillips, who worked with Ream to design an inviting and artistic entrance to the classroom area. “The Museum is deeply grateful for Nan’s generosity, which will enrich Massillon for generations to come,” he added. “We invite others to join her in supporting MassMu’s mission. Every contribution—large or small—helps ensure that the Museum remains a beacon of creativity, history, and culture for our entire community.”
Fall classes and workshops that will meet in The MAC will include Zombie Makeup, Water-Soluble Oil Still Life Painting, Spooky Starry Night for children, Clay Dragon Eggs, Art and Conversation for children, Story and Art Time with Massillon Public Library and MassMu, and The Art of Finger Painting. A robust schedule of ceramics classes for children and adults will also be held in MassMu’s Ceramics Studio, where Ream furnished a second kiln.
Massillon Museum is a recipient of ArtsBuild funding from ArtsinStark. This grant is made possible by the support of the Stark County community through ArtsinStark's annual Campaign for the Arts. The Massillon Museum also appreciates operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and the citizens of Massillon, as well as marketing support from Visit Canton. MassMu education department programming is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East in downtown Massillon. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city lots. For more information, call the Museum at 330-833-4061 or visitmassillonmuseum.org.
