Soroptimist International to Host Homegoing Book Discussion
Soroptimist International of Canton/Stark County will host a book talk at Codex Brewing (6305 Whipple Avenue, N.W., North Canton) on Wednesday, April 10, at 6:00 p.m. The discussion is part of the Massillon Museum’s 2024 NEA Big Read program. The event is open to the public. Register for free at www.tinyurl.com/BookTalkCodex.
The discussion, a special edition of Codex's regular Beers and Books club held the second Wednesday of each month, will complement this year’s NEA Big Read book selection, "Homegoing" by Yaa Gyasi.
Beginning on Saturday, April 6, the Massillon Museum will distribute 1,100 copies of" "Homegoing" bringing the number of free NEA Big Read books provided for area residents to 32,400 since 2008. In each book is a bookmark containing a list of two dozen events and exhibitions that enhance the enjoyment of reading the current NEA Big Read book selection.
The Massillon Museum received its 17th consecutive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host the 2024 NEA Big Read in Western Stark County. An initiative in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. MassMu is one of 62 nonprofit organizations across the nation to be selected to receive the prestigious NEA Big Read grant during this grant cycle.
The Massillon Public Library is annually the Museum’s lead Big Read partner. In addition to the NEA grant, funding for the Big Read and the Little Read is provided by One Tiger and Massillon Rotary Foundation. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council, ArtsinStark, and the citizens of Massillon, as well as marketing support from Visit Canton.
