Stark County Recorder Jamie Walters urges Veterans to be aware of
FREE services
Stark County Recorder Jamie Walters is advising Veterans and their families to be aware that there are companies who are charging for services offered to Military Veteran’s that they can receive for FREE.
A company based out of Arizona, DD214 Direct, claims they will send a Veteran a copy of their military discharge documentation (called a DD214 form) and have it sent to their County Recorder’s office to be filed, all for a fee of $79 to $99 dollars.
While it may be legal for a company like DD214 Direct to do this, Recorder Jamie Walters and other County Recorder’s across the state want to make sure Veteran’s know this is a free service for them.
Any Veteran can request a free copy of their Military records through their local Veterans Service commission. Veterans can also Record their DD214 for free with their local County Recorder’s office.
In an effort to inform the public, the Ohio Recorder’s Association (ORA) has asked all Recorder’s across the state to make Veteran’s aware of this.
Recorder Jamie Walters and the ORA are working with State legislators to create legislation that companies like DD214 Direct cannot do business in Ohio without disclosing the services they offer can be done for free, and who Veteran’s can contact locally in order to do so.
Veteran’s can also go online to https://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records and request a copy, or from the same website, print off a Standard Form-180 and mail or fax it to:
National Personnel Records Center
1 Archives Drive
St Louis, MO 63138
FAX: 314-801-9195
Your can also contact your local Veterans Service Commission or County Recorders office with questions.
