Water is the lifeblood of all existence, one of the four elements of nature, along with earth, air, and fire. It covers 71% of Earth’s surface and comes in many forms. As such, it has been an enduring theme for artistic expression. Through a variety of media and styles, Canton Artists League members express the different qualities, forms, and places associated with the theme of water.
Canton Artists League, an affiliate of the Canton Museum of Art, is a forum for artists, photographers, and craftspeople to meet and help further their creativity through exhibits, workshops, and a shared bond of talent and imagination. New members—professional, semi-professional, and amateur visual artists, as well as individuals with a sincere interest in supporting the visual arts—are always welcome. Members live in Stark County, Ohio, and neighboring areas. Meetings are every third Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., and are typically held at the Canton Museum of Art. For more information, visit CantonArtistsLeague.org.
MassMu’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery exhibitions reflect community collaborations such as the Canton Artists League; Kent Area (Ohio) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated; the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon; and Art Possible Ohio.
When visiting the Into the Water exhibition, guests can also view Sight Unseen: Photography by Blind Artists (through May 18); Figure as Memento: New Ceramic and Mixed Media Artwork by Tom Bartel (April 26–June 8); Maxmillian Peralta: Flat Affect (June 21–August 3); Juxtaposed: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future (June 5–October 12); and exhibitions in the Paul Brown Museum, Photography Gallery, and permanent collection galleries.
