Capture the beauty around you and the magic of the season with changing landscapes of places, wildlife, and people. We invite you to capture a photograph of the unique look of the winter season during your adventures in Stark Parks from December 1, 2025, until March 13, 2026. Join Stark Parks for December Fest holiday activities. Get in the holiday and winter spirit with these unique and fun programs happening in December. Guided programs include crafts, yoga, hiking/snowshoeing, historical tours, and kids’ activities with a holiday or winter season theme. Santa “Claws” for a Cause
Help Santa “Claws” deck the halls of the Wildlife Conservation Center at Sippo Lake Park on December 5th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. If you wish, bring a gift from the center's wish list (www.starkparks.com/wishlist) and watch Santa deliver these special items to our wildlife ambassadors. Spend time meeting our animals, enjoy a holiday-lit trail in the woods, have a snowball fight (with or without snow), take part in other outside activities and warm up near the campfire. Make sure your little one brings a stuffed animal so they can become a wildlife rehabber and care for their stuffy at the Holly Hospital station. No registration required.
Light Up Magnolia
Visit the Magnolia Flouring Mills from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on December 6th during the city's tree lighting event. Tour the mill, enjoy the Gingerbread contest display and a visit with our special guest, Santa! After your visit be sure to enjoy all the other holiday events and activities scattered throughout the town. A Merry Manor House Christmas
Step into the holiday season by joining the Quail Hollow Volunteer Association for an afternoon of fun at the Stewart Manor House at Quail Hollow Park December 12th, 13th and 14th from noon until 4:00 PM. Rooms will sparkle with twinkling lights and festive garland as you search for the hidden scavenger hunt items among the holiday décor. Enjoy a complimentary beverage and sweet treat in the living room while serenaded by festive music. Join Stark Parks in making a take home craft and stop by the Christmas Shoppe to snag the perfect holiday gift. Bring family and friends as the activities are perfect for all ages. The cost is $10 per person (ages 13 and up), $7 per person (ages 4 to 12) and free (ages 3 and under). For more information and to register visit QHVA.org.
Christmas in the Canalway
The Canalway Center located at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park will be decked out for Christmas on December 16th and ready for an afternoon of crafts, stories, holiday activities, and a special surprise guest. Storytime starts at 1:00 PM, followed by a scavenger hunt and a make-and-take holiday craft. This is a drop-in event from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. No registration required.
Activities
Ranger Walks
Join law enforcement rangers for a one-mile guided walk at Tam O’Shanter Park on December 3rd from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Rangers will share how they protect wildlife and visitors, and the importance of conservation. The program is free, but registration is required at StarkParks.com.
Let's Build a Snowman
Celebrate the season with a fun-filled indoor winter event on December 18th at Tam O’Shanter Park from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Children ages 3 – 6 will create their own mini snowman using festive craft supplies, then settle in to watch the classic snowman movie. Popcorn will be provided during the movie for an extra festive treat. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $5 for in-county and $7 for out of county.
Evening Snowshoe Hike
Bundle up and experience the winter wonder of Pike Ridge Park with an evening snowshoe hike on December 19th from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. Whether you are experienced, or beginner, all are welcome. Hike will still occur without snow. Call the office at 330-477-3552 to register. The program is free but registration is required.
Winter Hike-a-thon
Ring in the winter season with the shortest day of the year by hiking all day on December 21st at several Stark Parks locations. You may choose to hike all day and follow the staff from site to site or you can pick which hike(s) you would like to attend. Locations include Quail Hollow Park, Walborn Reservoir, Iron Horse Trail, and Middle Branch Trail. Visit www.starkparks.com/hikeathon to register for one or more locations. It is free to participate.
Winter Wilderness Camp
Winter Wilderness Camp is perfect for kids ages 10 – 13 who love the outdoors and winter fun. The camp will be held December 30th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park. Campers will learn the skill of archery, explore the forest on snowshoes, and become wildlife detectives as they practice animal tracking in the snow. Camp will occur with or without snow. Lunch, water, and proper clothing are required for participation. Pre-registration required and the fee is $10 for in-county and $15 for out of county.
Yoga
The hour-long yoga sessions will leave you feeling relaxed and strong. Certified yoga instructor Kim Kohler will help you challenge yourself while working at your own level in a safe and supportive environment. Modifications are offered to appeal to all skill levels. Pre-registration is required, and you will need to bring a mat. Fees are $8 for in-county and $12 for out-of-county residents. Sippo Lake Park dates include December 1st, 6th, 13th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. December 8th is a special Namaste for the Holidays yoga event at Tam O’Shanter Park from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
