Uniontown, Ohio, May 28, 2024 – A 5K Run/Walk and a one-mile fun run is taking place on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. at the Lake Community YMCA, located at 428 King Church Ave. in Uniontown. The dollars raised will support the Lake Community Hope Scholarship Fund in Memory of Melissa Dunham, Renee Dunham, Amber Dunham and Evan Dunham.

The Dunhams were Lake Township residents and passed away in August 2023.

The surviving family, through the Stark Community Foundation, set up a scholarship fund to support Lake Local Schools, which is the school district the three children attended and where Melissa was an alumna. The fund will provide monetary scholarships to Lake High School seniors beginning with the 2025 graduating class.

Early bird pricing is available through July 13, 2024. Pricing ranges from $20-$40 and is based on the registrant’s age and the length of race selected.

The Dunhams were incredibly passionate volunteers in the entire greater Akron/Canton region with a special focus on Lake Township.

Melissa joined the Community Support Services (CSS) Board of Directors in 2015 and had served as Chair of the Finance Committee, as well as Treasurer. She was a Partner at the CPA firm Bober Markey Fedorovich. Melissa graduated from Westminster College and earned her master’s of business administration at Kent State University and her master’s of taxation at the University of Akron.

The family was active in local scout troops and led numerous volunteer projects benefiting the community.

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on engagement in extracurricular activities and community service beyond school.
